In this first issue it's appropriate that one of our longer serving tutors should have the chance to introduce himself. Step forward David West, a stalwart of our UK tutors' panel
My background is Electro/Mechanical Engineering design. Having studied and trained in the late 1960's my career developed with UK-based R&D departments providing solutions for NGO's and various large European research establishments. Having a passion for all aspects of good design I decided on a change in direction towards my long time interests, Interiors and Architecture.
Having already had experience with small residential ID commissions, I went on to study with Rhodec in the late 1990's and was subsequently offered a position as Tutor in 2000. The role incorporates a number of disciplines and is varied and often rewarding. I'm able to combine it with my other activities, including acting ID consultant for an architectural practice planning residential projects.
I've recently completed and submitted plans for a contemporary extension to our 17th Century cottage; with planning approval I will then project manage the build. During the twenty years we've lived here I've been involved with other similar projects on the property. I'm a member of the Twentieth Century Society with other interests including, modernism, mountain biking, jazz, and sourcing mid 20th Century furniture.
My wife is a senior HR Manager based in the UK working for a global electronics company, whilst our daughter is currently in her first year at University studying history.
