Educational Objectives - Diploma Program

The educational objective of the Diploma/Diploma of Higher Education Program is to provide a thorough training in interior design, sufficient to allow a graduate to practice professionally and/or to earn a bachelor's degree through further study.

On completion of the Rhodec Diploma program each student will be able independently to:

• have developed a personal philosophy towards interior design and an individual approach to its conduct;
• progress a project from inception to completion;
• research into the nature of problems and devise strategies for their solution;
• be competent in drawing and modeling and, though visual analysis, use these techniques to explore and express visual ideas;
• have developed visual sensibilities in the use of proportion, form, color and texture that will enable the manipulation of these elements knowingly and creatively;
• have developed an understanding of the factors governing the selection of materials, finishes, artifacts and manufacturing and installation techniques and be able to apply them in the design of interiors;
• respond with sensitivity and care to environmental and safety issues when realizing design concepts;
• have gained an understanding of the implications of being a professional interior designer and the relationship of that profession to the many others engaged in the realization of the built environment.
• have developed an understanding of the factors governing the selection of interior domestic furniture and fittings;
• acquired knowledge of the key elements on interior construction and its application;
• gained an understanding of the essentials of professional practice;
• prepare for entry to appropriate professional bodies.
